Application of Phenolic Resin

Keywords: anti-corrosion carbon bricks

Phenolic resin is mainly used in the manufacture of various plastics, coatings, adhesives, and synthetic fibers.

Compression molding powder

One of the main uses of phenolic resin is the molding powder used in the production of molded products. The resin impregnated filler is mixed evenly with other additives by rolling, spiral extrusion and lotion methods, and then crushed and sieved to produce compression molding powder. Wood powder is commonly used as a filler, and inorganic fillers such as mica powder, asbestos powder, and quartz powder are also used to manufacture certain high electrical insulation and heat-resistant parts. Compression molding powder can be used to produce various plastic products through molding, transfer molding, and injection molding methods. Thermoplastic phenolic resin powder is mainly used for manufacturing electrical components such as switches, sockets, plugs, daily necessities, and other industrial products. Thermosetting phenolic resin powder is mainly used for manufacturing high electrical insulation components. Reinforced phenolic plastics impregnate various fibers and fabrics with phenolic resin (mainly thermosetting phenolic resin) solution or lotion, and various reinforced plastics formed by drying and pressing are important industrial materials. It not only has high mechanical strength and good comprehensive performance, but also can be machined. Phenolic plastics reinforced with glass fiber, quartz fiber, and their fabrics are mainly used to manufacture various brake friction plates and chemical anti-corrosion plastics; High silicon oxygen

Phenolic plastics reinforced with glass fiber and carbon fiber are important erosion resistant materials in the aerospace industry.

Phenolic coating

Phenolic resins modified with rosin, phenolic resins etherified with butanol, as well as p-tert-butylphenol resins and p-phenylphenol resins, all have good miscibility with tung oil and linseed oil, and are important raw materials for the coating industry. The first two are used to prepare low and medium grade paints, while the latter two are used to prepare high-grade paints.

Phenolic adhesive

Thermosetting phenolic resin is also an important raw material for adhesives. Single phenolic resin has brittle adhesive properties and is mainly used for bonding plywood and precision casting sand molds. Adhesives based on phenolic resins modified with other high polymers play an important role in structural adhesives. Among them, phenolic nitrile, phenolic aldehyde aldehyde, phenolic epoxy, phenolic epoxy aldehyde, phenolic nylon and other adhesives have the characteristics of good heat resistance and high bonding strength. Phenolic nitrile and phenolic aldehyde formaldehyde adhesives also have excellent properties such as tensile strength, impact resistance, and resistance to moisture and heat aging, making them excellent varieties of structural adhesives.

Phenolic fiber

Mainly using thermoplastic linear phenolic resin as raw material, after melt spinning, it is immersed in an aqueous solution of formaldehyde and hydrochloric acid for solidification treatment to obtain formaldehyde cross-linked structural fibers. To improve fiber strength and modulus, it can be melt mixed with 5% to 10% polyamide and spun. This type of fiber is golden or yellow brown in color, with a strength of 11.5-15.9 cN/dtex, outstanding flame resistance, a limit oxygen index of 34, and instant contact with an oxygen acetylene flame at nearly 7500 ℃. It does not melt or ignite, has self extinguishing properties, and can also withstand concentrated hydrochloric acid and hydrofluoric acid, but has poor resistance to sulfuric acid, nitric acid, and strong alkali. Mainly used as protective clothing and fire-resistant fabrics or indoor decorations, it can also be used as insulation, heat insulation, filtering materials, etc. It can also be processed into low strength, low modulus carbon fiber, activated carbon fiber, ion exchange fiber, etc.

Anti corrosion materials

Several commonly used forms of thermosetting phenolic resin in the field of corrosion prevention: phenolic resin coatings; Phenolic resin fiberglass, phenolic epoxy resin composite fiberglass; Phenolic resin adhesive and mortar; Phenolic resin impregnated and pressed graphite products. The curing forms of thermosetting phenolic resin are divided into two types: room temperature curing and heat curing. Room temperature curing can use non-toxic room temperature curing agent NL, as well as benzenesulfonyl chloride or petroleum sulfonic acid, but the latter two materials are more toxic and irritating. Suggest using low toxicity and high efficiency NL curing agent. Graphite powder, ceramic powder, quartz powder, and barium sulfate powder can be selected as fillers, and diabase powder should not be used.

Thermal insulation materials

It is mainly phenolic resin foam material. Phenolic foam products are characterized by heat insulation, heat insulation, fire prevention and light weight. As a new material for heat insulation, energy conservation and fire prevention, they can be widely used in central air-conditioning systems, lightweight thermal insulation color steel plates, heat insulation and energy reducing insulation of buildings, thermal insulation materials of chemical pipelines (especially deep and low temperature insulation), thermal insulation of vehicles, ships and other places. Phenolic foam is known as the king of thermal insulation because of its low thermal conductivity and good thermal insulation performance. Phenolic foam not only has low thermal conductivity and good thermal insulation performance, but also has many advantages such as flame resistance, good thermal stability, light weight, low smoke, low toxicity, heat resistance, high mechanical strength, sound insulation, strong chemical corrosion resistance, good weather resistance, etc. Phenolic foam plastic has rich sources of raw materials, low prices, simple production and processing, and a wide range of uses.
